Jema was helping pick and preserve pears this week! Together we peeled and sliced up so many we lost count!

These conference pears will turn into...
🍾 Red wine poached pears for dessert, our B&B guests will get to enjoy these if they choose to add a 3-course dinner onto their stay.
🍮Caramel Quatre Epices (french four spice) pears, our High Tea goers will enjoy these in tarts and cakes.
🍐Plain bottled pears for future creative ventures.

Altogether? 36 jars of pears 👏

Our preserving season is almost over and we have our most ambitious attempt to go. Do you have a favourite way to preserve pears?

Contrary to Ashburton's conservative rep, the district has shown us as a couple nothing but warm welcomes 🌈 and zero second thoughts (maybe a double take or two though 😉) although lately, our ads have been shown to a few people who have decided our love is "unnatural" 🙄 so please give our posts some love when you see them.

Getting together in real-life is one of today's luxuries and we love providing a reason to gather. Usually, our themed events aren't that deep - they are simply fun themed events 💃 we leave the deep and meaningful to our guests.

But from hosting, we've discovered a whole incredible world of meaning 👇

🩵 It's the first event they've felt safe enough to attend alone, since they were diagnosed with PTSD, since they came out, since they became a mum.

❤️ They have a milestone to celebrate - a marriage, an anniversary, a birthday, a friends success.

💛 They are creating new memories to treasure with those they hold dear.

💜 They feel safe enough to be who they are, without worrying about nasty comments, or bigotry.

This is exactly the environment we aim to create with every event we host. And Pride has its own deep meaning 🏳️‍🌈

There's our history both globally, and here in our own country and each battle these strong people made to get us to the rights, recognition and welcome we have today in the world 🌏 The people living here and now who participate and belong to the community, and then the future of where we are heading.... and considering some of our recent comment section, pride is still needed even in 2026! 👀

🙏 We hope by continuing to host a Pride event each March, we're setting the stage show Mid-Canterbury is just as welcoming as a bigger city like Christchurch. We've heard stories of your daughters and their wives, your brother and his partner, your grandchildren and their friends. We know your family has as much 🌈 as ours.

It's preserving season and I've done my best to do

It's preserving season and I've done my best to document my process to preserve as many peaches as possible in an efficient and waste free method, that also provides you with a useful product.

The slices and rounds I use in upsidedown cakes, pastries, and tarts. And the beautiful side product is the real star of the show - a peach Bellini mix (if all this effort is not your thing, I am also selling 1L bottles of it for a limited time for $30 a bottle).
