Frequently Asked Questions
Do you cater to dietary requirements?
We cater to gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarians and vegans regularly. Please note, we do not have a separate facility for Gluten Free food preparation and cannot guarantee cross-contamination will not occur. We require advanced notice to cater for dietary requirements so please get in touch about your needs.
I have Mobility Needs. Can you cater for them?
The nature of Hemsworth Estate’s 1911 Historic Homestead setting is the building does not cater to modern standards. There are four shallow steps with no handrail to the main entrance of the building. Each persons needs are unique so we ask you give us a call to discuss your requirements and see how we can meet them. Only our outdoor summer events are wheelchair accessible but we do cater to low mobility year round.
Are children welcome?
Yes, of course! We have half-price tickets for kids aged 4-12 years. If your child is 3 or under, you can order a ticket if you would like them to have their own serving of food. Children will be presented with their own child-friendly cup and saucer. If necessary, we can cater the food requirements as well upon request.
Please contact us if you require a high chair.
Where is Hemsworth Estate?
Is there enough food for men?
This particular meal was originally designed by the Duchess of Bedford to pass the time between what is now breakfast and dinner. It was five savoury options, four sweet, plus scones served with Jam and Cream which of course you can request second helpings of. We consider this will be enough to serve as a light-to-medium luncheon meal replacement.
What if I don't drink alcohol?
Not a problem, we also offer a delicious seasonal Champagne Mocktail as an alternative for those who desire a non-alcoholic option.
Where will we be seated?
We have a wide variety of unique options at our historic homestead, including the Dining Room, Drawing Room, Morning Room, Sunroom and occasionally the Guinness Room. Each of these rooms have a variety of dining table and chair, window seat, settee, and armchair options. If you require a particular type of seat, or a high chair, please do give us a call to confirm we can meet your needs.
What's the difference between High Tea and Afternoon Tea?
There’s much debate among historian and afternoon tea purists on this topic. The Duchess of Bedford originally started a trend of asking for sandwiches, cakes and small delicacies to tide her over between breaking fast in the mornings and the ever-increasingly late dinner in the evenings. This was called “Afternoon Tea”.
However the english language is one that is constantly evolving and we believe in today’s language that afternoon tea stands for a lighter fare of cakes, sandwiches and biscuits with your hot drink of choice between Lunch and Dinner. High Tea is a much grander affair with a cake tier of many options presented to guests, along with freshly baked scones, jam and cream and freshly brewed pots of tea and coffee poured for guests.
What if I don't drink tea?
In addition to pots of freshly brewed tea, we also offer french press coffee and old-fashioned lemonade.
